  • Composition of the non-ice materials on the Jovian satellites Europa, Callisto, and Ganymede.
  • Surface composition of the Saturnian satellites using upcoming data from the Visual and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (VIMS) aboard the Cassini spacecraft. Begins full operation in 2004.
  • High-energy ion bombardment of planetary analogue materials. Attempting to simulate conditions and processes in parts of the Solar System that have intense radiation.
  • Calibration of spectrometers on current NASA and ESA missions: the Galileo NIMS, Cassini VIMS, Mars Express HRSC camera, Rosetta VIRTIS, and the DAWN spectrometer.
  • Surface composition and mapping lithologic units on Mars using data from the High Spatial Resolution Camera (HRSC) aboard the European Space Agency spacecraft, the Mars Express, HiRISECTX and Themis.
  • Radiative transfer in planetary atmospheres and surfaces
