I am studying the energy balance and composition of the winter polar caps of Mars using data from the Mars Global Surveyor, particularly the infrared spectrometer and the laser altimeter, which are both useful in the polar night.

I am studying the distribution, composition and crystalline properties of water ice on the surfaces of the icy Galilean satellites of Jupiter (Europa, Ganymede and Callisto) using reflectance spectra from the Galileo orbiter.

I am studying in the laboratory physical and spectral properties of sulfate and carbonate salt materials in the extreme cold and low pressures characteristic of the outer solar system (with particular emphasis on possible surface materials on Europa.
