In May 1986, I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and Geophysics from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I then joined the SeaMARC II group (now called HMRG) in the Marine Science department, where I worked with the research scientists who contracted the use of a towed side-scan sonar system for mapping specific areas of the ocean floor, handled acquisition and processing of the digital data collected from the instrument onboard research vessels, produced mosaicked intensity image data maps registered to the bathymetry data, and later additonal post-processing to produce a final product.

After transferring to Seattle with a commercial side-scan sonar company, Seafloor Surveys Inc, I acquired and processed data to produce atlases, with layers consisting of a mapgrid, intensity image data, bathymetric data, and the interpreted geology, for contracts with companies interested in optic phone cable routes.

I started with the University of Washington in 1993 with the Remote Sensing Lab, part of the Earth & Space Sciences department. My duties include developing and maintaining archive databases for satellite and airborne digital data, coordinating and participating in fieldwork, and assisting with current research projects.
